After trying to develop their own in-house solution, Kolsen adopted Workfacta because it provided the solutions they were looking for and more.

We operate seven different entities, each with their own diverse activities and tasks and spread over a large geographical area. Managing all those teams remotely and trying to unify them under common goals required a lot of input.

Improved alignment
Before Workfacta, we constantly had to have team meetings which were taken up by long updates on what everyone was doing, rather than resolving issues. Since we started using Workfacta, we can set up common goals as well as specific team goals. We meet quarterly and set the agenda so there’s strong alignment between group goals and the goals of each of our businesses and teams.
Each time we get a new business or team, I can spend time with them, focus on setting clear strategic priorities and creating alignment with our broader agenda. This sets the stage for really strong performance.
Greater transparency
Kolsen uses a range of Workfacta functions including Meetings, Quarterly Goals, the Numbers Dashboard and Problem Solving. This meant we could change our business reporting cycles from monthly, where we had to include lag indicators and wait six weeks to see results, to weekly. Now we can look at lead indicators and react a lot faster to indicators and outcomes.
We’re numbers people and Workfacta means there’s a person accountable for each number.
Better accountability
We try to encourage performance based teams and ensure our people are competitive. Using Workfacta, we’re working on the relative performance of every team, making that really transparent. When everyone in the team can see what others are doing, they’re motivated to improve their performance to keep up.
We also love how the Quarterly Goals help us keep track of our deliverables. It makes sure, even though people have lots of tasks and competing priorities, nothing falls off the agenda.
When people arrive late to meetings, it holds everyone else up. When you calculate those minutes by the salaries we’re paying everyone in the meeting, it quickly adds up. Since adopting Workfacta, our meetings have started on time, saving us a lot of time and money.
